NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Metro Nashville Police Department has identified the woman tragically killed in a hit-and-run early Tuesday morning as Melena Sanderson, 42, a resident of Nashville.

The fatal incident occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Interstate 40 West near Old Hickory Boulevard. Authorities report that Sanderson had exited a gray SUV that had pulled over on the right shoulder of the interstate. Moments later, she was struck by another vehicle, which fled the scene without stopping.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but despite their efforts, Sanderson was pronounced dead at the scene. Her sudden death has devastated her family, friends, and local community members who describe her as warm, resilient, and deeply caring.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are urging the public to come forward with any information that might help identify the driver involved. Surveillance footage and witness reports are currently being reviewed, but no arrests have been made as of Tuesday afternoon.

A roadside memorial has begun to grow near the crash site, as loved ones pay tribute to a life lost far too soon. A GoFundMe campaign is also being set up to help with funeral costs and to support Melena’s grieving family.
