Tragedy on H-1 Freeway Claims Young Mother’s Life

HONOLULU (Island News) — Heartbreak ripples through the Oʻahu community following the tragic death of Kylee Chun, a 29-year-old single mother whose life was cut short in a wrong-way crash on the H-1 freeway early Sunday morning.

“She’s so young and she still had so much more to do — so much more to live for,” said her aunt, Beejay Drury, through tears.

Kylee was known for her warm spirit, infectious smile, and unwavering devotion to her young child. Friends and family describe her as a loving mother, a caring daughter, and a bright light in their lives — someone who faced life’s challenges with quiet strength and grace.

The crash, which authorities say involved a wrong-way driver, is under active investigation. Community members are calling for greater awareness and preventive measures to ensure tragedies like this do not continue to happen.

In the wake of the loss, loved ones have created a memorial at the site and are organizing support efforts for Kylee’s child, who now faces life without a mother. A GoFundMe campaign has also been launched to assist with funeral expenses and to support her family during this unimaginable time.

“She didn’t deserve this,” said Drury. “No one does. But Kylee… she had so much life ahead of her. We just want to remember her for the love she gave and the legacy she leaves behind.”
