The Dyer County community continues to bear the weight of a heartbreaking loss as it remembers the life of 18-year-old Daronte Herbert, whose promising future was cut short in a senseless act of violence.
On November 6, 2025, justice moved one step closer to honoring his memory when a Dyer County jury found Deshawn “Money” Gorman and Demauzay “Zay” Jackson guilty of First Degree Murder for their roles in Herbert’s tragic death. Immediately following the verdict, Circuit Court Judge Mark Hayes imposed a life sentence on both individuals.
Herbert’s family, friends, and the broader community continue to mourn his loss while taking solace in the accountability achieved through the legal process, remembering him for the light, potential, and promise he brought into the world.
