Our Helms College family is heartbroken by the tragic loss of student Martin Gordon. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, classmates, and instructors during this incredibly difficult time.

Safety remains a top priority across the Village West campus, which includes Helms College, the Goodwill Store and Career Center, Edgar’s Grille, and Edgar’s Bakehouse. In response to this tragedy, we have implemented enhanced security measures, including:

• Deployment of off-duty police officers

• Increased hours for our existing security specialist

• Continued collaboration with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office

These build on our current security practices, such as badge-controlled access, on-site surveillance, well-lit parking areas, and established emergency procedures.

Counseling and support services remain available for students, faculty, and staff. This week, our community gathered to honor Martin’s memory, and we will continue to keep him and his loved ones in our hearts.
