Oskaloosa Mourns the Loss of Leonard Schupp, 51, Following Tragic U.S. 40 Highway Crash
The Oskaloosa community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Leonard Schupp, 51, who tragically passed away on the afternoon of Friday, July 18, 2025, following a devastating multi-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 40.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred near the 370.6 mile marker when a 2012 Ford Focus, traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes, collided head-on with a 2021 Ram 1500 Promaster. The driver of the Promaster, in an effort to avoid the wrong-way vehicle, had swerved into a ditch, but the collision was ultimately unavoidable. Leonard Schupp was a passenger in the Promaster and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash, including why the Ford Focus was traveling in the wrong direction. Other injuries from the incident were reported, though specific details have not been released.
Leonard Schupp was a well-respected and deeply cherished member of the Oskaloosa community. Friends and family remember him as a hardworking, kind-hearted individual who was always ready to lend a helping hand. His presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
