On the evening of Tuesday, August 5, 2025 (around 9:04 p.m.), deputies from the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance in rural Des Moines County, Iowa.

They encountered David Maupin, age 46. During the encounter, Maupin became uncooperative and produced a firearm. A deputy then discharged his weapon, fatally shooting Maupin.
