MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. — A fatal two-vehicle collision in Marshall County on Sunday evening has claimed the life of Elena Montejo Lopez, a 53-year-old woman from Albertville. The crash occurred around 7 p.m. at the intersection of Kilpatrick Road and U.S. Highway 431, a busy crossing known for high traffic and previous wrecks.

According to officials, Lopez was a passenger in one of the vehicles and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marshall County Coroner’s Office.

The Albertville Police Department is leading the investigation and has not yet released information about the condition of the other driver or any contributing factors, such as speed, impairment, or right-of-way violations. No charges or citations have been reported at this time.

Emergency responders closed portions of the highway for several hours Sunday evening while investigators worked the scene and cleared debris. The intersection at Kilpatrick Road and U.S. 431 has been the site of multiple serious crashes in recent years, prompting ongoing concerns from residents and local officials about safety improvements, including better lighting and traffic signal timing.

Authorities have not yet released the names of other individuals involved, pending notification of family members. An autopsy may be conducted as part of the investigation.
