Margate Tragedy: Father Pays Tribute to “Always Smiling and Laughing” Son, 4, Killed After Walking Out of Hospital

Margate, Kent — The grieving father of a four-year-old boy who tragically died after being struck by a bus in Margate has paid an emotional tribute to his “beautiful, always smiling and laughing” son.

The heartbreaking incident occurred after the child reportedly walked out of QEQM Hospital (Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital), prompting urgent questions around hospital security and supervision. Shortly afterward, the young boy was fatally hit by a bus nearby.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, but despite their best efforts, the child could not be saved.

His father, speaking through tears, described his son as “the light of our lives” and someone who brought joy to everyone around him.

“He was always smiling, always laughing. He loved dinosaurs, cartoons, and cuddles. He didn’t deserve this. Our hearts are broken forever.”

The family is now calling for answers and a full investigation into how a child was able to leave the hospital unaccompanied. Hospital officials and local authorities have confirmed that an internal review is underway.

Tributes and flowers have been laid at the scene of the tragedy, with the local community expressing shock and deep sorrow. Friends, neighbours, and strangers alike have come forward offering condolences and support to the devastated family.

The incident has sparked wider public concern about child safety in healthcare settings, with campaigners urging hospitals across the country to review their protocols to prevent similar tragedies.

The identity of the child has not yet been officially released.
