It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Meagan Turner, age 32, whose life was tragically cut short after she was found deceased in the Red Cedar River last week.
The East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) has since identified Meagan, a bright and dedicated doctoral candidate from Canada who had been pursuing her Ph.D. at Michigan State University.
Meagan was known by her peers and professors as a passionate researcher, a kind friend, and a source of positivity and encouragement within the university community. Her commitment to her studies and her compassion for others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Friends and colleagues describe Meagan as someone who brought light into every room she entered — her warmth, intelligence, and generosity touched countless lives.
The MSU community and Meagan’s loved ones in Canada are mourning this unimaginable loss. Support services and counseling have been made available for students and staff affected by her passing.
Funeral and memorial arrangements will be announced by the family in the coming days.
