In Memory of James “Speedy” Hughes
It’s with a heavy heart that we share the sad news of the passing of James “Speedy” Hughes, a long-time racer and beloved friend within the Central Ohio racing community. Speedy was always ready to lend a hand, whether on the track or in life, and his kindness and presence touched so many of us. He will be deeply missed.
One memory that stands out for me is when I’d just gotten off the phone with Bill Bader after he generously offered the use of Summit Motorsports Park’s jet drier for a late-season event with uncertain weather. I called Speedy to help tow it down, and without hesitation, he said, “I’m on my way, be there in twenty minutes!” That was Speedy — always there when you needed him.
