In Loving Memory of Firefighter Preston Fant

DeKalb County is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Firefighter Preston Fant, a 21-year veteran of DeKalb County Fire Rescue.

Firefighter Fant tragically lost his life after becoming trapped while heroically attempting to rescue a fellow firefighter during a structure fire in Stone Mountain on Monday. He was rushed to Grady Hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.

Firefighter Fant is being remembered as “an extraordinary public servant,” and “a family man whose kindness and humility touched everyone who knew him.” His courage, dedication, and compassion will never be forgotten.

He leaves behind his loving wife and five children. Please keep them—and all of his fellow firefighters—in your thoughts as they cope with this tremendous loss.

This marks the first time a DeKalb County firefighter has died in the line of duty while responding to a fire. His bravery and sacrifice will always be honored.
