Families and Survivors of 2023 Maine Mass Shooting Plan to Sue U.S. Government for Negligence
Families of the victims and dozens of survivors of the 2023 mass shooting in Maine are preparing to file a lawsuit against the U.S. government. The suit will allege negligence on the part of the military and other agencies, claiming they failed to act on multiple warning signs and a specific threat posed by the gunman, who was a member of the Army Reserve.
The plaintiffs argue that the tragedy could have been prevented if proper protocols had been followed in response to the shooter’s documented mental health issues and prior alarming behavior.
