Detroit Police Investigating Shooting Near 5th Precinct; One Injured

DETROIT, Mich. — Detroit Police are investigating a shooting near the department’s 5th Precinct after a person was reportedly shot in the back early Friday evening. The incident occurred in the 12800 block of Essex Street, where first responders were dispatched following ShotSpotter alerts of gunfire detected moments earlier on nearby Dickerson Street.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. Emergency medical personnel treated the individual on site before transporting him to a nearby hospital. As of Friday night, the victim’s condition was listed as stable, though no further details have been released about his identity.

Detectives canvassed the area for witnesses and reviewed nearby surveillance footage. Police have not yet confirmed a motive or released information on potential suspects.

Residents in the area reported hearing several gunshots and expressed concern over rising violence near residential neighborhoods close to the precinct.
