Deadly Afternoon Shooting at Columbus Apartment Complex Leaves One Dead

COLUMBUS, Georgia — A deadly shooting at the Avalon Apartments on Cusseta Road claimed one life and injured another in the afternoon on May 5, 2025. The Franklin County Violent Crimes Unit reports that 33-year-old Chastin Hunter was shot multiple times and later died at a nearby hospital CNAW 2 with Colin Scroggins.

Hunter’s brother was also wounded in the shooting but is currently in stable condition CNAW 2 with Colin Scroggins.

Arrests Made

• Anthony Pollard, Jr., age 17, was arrested and faces multiple charges including murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

• A second arrest was made: 69-year-old Eugene Mabry has also been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and armed robbery in connection with the incident CNAW 2 with Colin Scroggins.
