Body Cam Footage Released in Fatal SWAT Shooting of Dallas Attorney Martin Benes
Dallas, TX — Newly released body camera footage captures the tense and chaotic moments leading up to the fatal shooting of Martin Benes, a local attorney who was killed by Dallas SWAT officers during a standoff earlier this week.
According to police, officers responded to a disturbance at Benes’ residence, where he had reportedly barricaded himself inside and was experiencing a mental health crisis. Negotiators were called to the scene in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.
After hours of failed communication, the footage shows Benes suddenly charging at officers with a knife as they attempted to make entry. Officers repeatedly yelled commands for him to stop before firing their weapons, striking Benes. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is under investigation by the Dallas Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit, and the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave per standard protocol.
Benes was a practicing attorney in the Dallas area. Friends and colleagues have expressed shock at the incident and are calling for transparency as the investigation moves forward.
