A Message from Coach Ben on Behalf of Cogito Jiu-Jitsu
Recently, our Cogito community suffered a tragic and heartbreaking loss. We all see different sides of each other in different environments—but we never truly know the battles someone might be silently facing.
To me, he was more than a teammate. He was a training partner and a friend. He always showed up with a smile, ready to put in the work, and brought a quiet, uplifting energy that made the room better simply by being in it.
Tragically, he recently chose to take his own life. He was still a teenager. There were no signs—no warnings—that he was carrying such a heavy burden. His passing has left us with waves of grief: numbness, anger, confusion, guilt… but above all, a deep sadness for the loss of a kind soul who should still be here with us.
Life is a precious gift—and so are the people we share it with.
As we mourn and remember our friend, I want to take this moment to encourage anyone who may be struggling: you are not alone. Please, talk to someone you trust. My door is always open.
This month is National Suicide Prevention Month, and it’s a reminder to check in on each other, speak openly, and extend compassion—always. If you need immediate support, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is 988, available 24/7, and you can remain anonymous.
Please reach out to me or Dillon if you would like information about the funeral arrangements.
🙏 Rest in peace, my friend. You are deeply missed and will never be forgotten.
