Shooting in Downtown San Diego Involves Ralphs Security Guard and Suspect
San Diego, CA – August 8, 2025 — A shooting occurred Friday evening near 1st Avenue and Horton Plaza, involving a Ralphs security guard and a suspect. According to San Diego Police, the incident began when the suspect, a customer, had an altercation with the security guard. The situation escalated when the suspect allegedly pulled a gun from their backpack and fired two shots at the guard, who returned fire once. A nearby federal agent witnessed the exchange, contacted police, and assisted in apprehending the suspect, who was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The incident led to temporary street closures in the downtown area.
