John Baker, a passionate and dedicated leader in the Surf Life Saving community, died unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy of service, courage, and commitment to saving lives. As President of SLSA, John played a crucial role in shaping the organisation’s modern vision while remaining grounded in the core values of volunteerism, safety, and community.
Mr. Baker was awarded both the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) and the Emergency Services Medal (ESM) in recognition of his exceptional contribution to public safety and his leadership in Surf Life Saving at both national and grassroots levels.
Throughout his life, John inspired thousands through his work, advocacy, and personal dedication to coastal safety. His leadership was marked by compassion, strategic vision, and a tireless commitment to the cause of preventing drownings and promoting safe aquatic environments across Australia.
He is mourned by the Surf Life Saving community, his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched. Plans for a public memorial service will be announced by SLSA in the coming days.
