KANSAS CITY, KANSAS — The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) is leading an inquiry into a tragic officer-involved shooting that claimed the life of Deputy Elijah Ming, a 34-year-old deputy with the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office.

KANSAS CITY, KANSAS — The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) is leading an inquiry into a tragic officer-involved shooting that claimed the life of Deputy Elijah Ming, a 34-year-old deputy with the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Ming was fatally shot on the afternoon of Saturday, July 26, 2025, while responding to a domestic disturbance call at a residence near 2627 South 30th Street in Kansas City, Kansas.

According to law enforcement reports, the incident began around 3:30 p.m. when deputies and Kansas City, Kansas Police Department officers were called to the scene, where a dispute over a moving situation had escalated. Upon arrival, Deputy Ming was struck by gunfire and later succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect, who briefly barricaded himself inside the home, was eventually taken into custody after being wounded in an exchange of gunfire. The KBI is now investigating the circumstances of the shooting as part of its standard protocol for all officer-involved incidents in Kansas.
