Tragic Murder-Suicide Under Investigation in Gaines Township
Gaines Township, MI — A devastating incident unfolded Monday afternoon in Gaines Township, resulting in the deaths of two individuals in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide.
According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office, the deceased have been identified as 43-year-old Elizabeth Weber and her boyfriend, 52-year-old Troy Balcer, both residents of the township. The tragic events occurred shortly after 1 p.m. in the 6700 block of Madison Avenue SE, just north of 68th Street.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene following reports of gunshots. Upon arrival, they discovered both Weber and Balcer deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. Initial findings suggest that Balcer fatally shot Weber before turning the weapon on himself.
Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and speak with witnesses to better understand the circumstances that led to the shooting. At this time, no additional suspects are being sought, and the community is not believed to be at risk.
