Kewanee Grieves the Loss of Matthew P. Manthe, 51, in Tragic Pedestrian Accident
The Kewanee community is grieving the tragic loss of Matthew P. Manthe, 51, who passed away following a pedestrian accident on the night of Sunday, July 20, 2025.
At approximately 10:11 p.m., officers from the Kewanee Police Department responded to the 1000 block of W. South Street after receiving reports that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian. Deputies from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office also arrived on scene to assist. Upon arrival, emergency responders located Matthew with critical injuries. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident remains under active investigation. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the driver or potential contributing factors. No charges have been filed at this time.
Matthew Manthe was known to many as a warm, hardworking, and compassionate individual. Friends and neighbors describe him as someone who always had a kind word to share and a willingness to help others, no matter the circumstance. His sudden loss has left a deep void in the lives of all who knew him.
