In Loving Memory of Kevin Cruickshank
Morningside Heights, New York City

The city of New York is mourning the heartbreaking and untimely loss of Kevin Cruickshank, a 55-year-old Morningside Heights resident, who was tragically killed on the morning of Saturday, July 19, 2025, in a devastating traffic crash in Chinatown.

Kevin was doing something he deeply loved—riding his bicycle—when his life was suddenly and senselessly taken. According to police reports, the collision occurred when a driver, speeding off the Manhattan Bridge in a Chevy Malibu, lost control of the vehicle and struck Kevin as he was cycling, as well as a 63-year-old pedestrian. Kevin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kevin was known for his gentle spirit, vibrant intellect, and deep love for New York City. A longtime resident of Morningside Heights, he could often be found biking along the Hudson, enjoying books in local cafes, or engaging neighbors in thoughtful conversation. He was a man of routine, passion, and quiet advocacy—especially for cycling safety and sustainable urban living.

To those who knew him, Kevin was a steadfast friend, a beloved neighbor, and a kind soul who made people feel seen and heard. His loss reverberates deeply not only within his local community but across the city he loved so much.

He is survived by family, dear friends, and the cycling community of New York City, who now grieve a man taken far too soon.

Details on memorial services and ways to honor Kevin’s legacy will be shared in the coming days.

May his memory serve as a call for greater safety and compassion on our streets—and may he rest in peace.
