The loss of life is always a tragedy. When that loss is a child or young person, it is one of the greatest heartbreaks any of us can experience. We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ta’Marious Murphy-Ellerbee, a 9th-grade student at Scotland High School. Ta’Marious’s passing is felt deeply throughout our district and school community. He will be remembered fondly by those who knew him for his spirit, potential, and the light he brought to those around him.

A Houston mother is mourning the heartbreaking loss of her son after a crash that claimed three lives early Sunday morning in southwest Houston. Family members identified one of the victims as 23-year-old Ronald “Trey” Harris. Investigators say the crash happened around 1 a.m. at the intersection of West Orem Drive and Almeda Road, when a driver—believed to be intoxicated—ran a red light and slammed into the car Harris was riding in. All three people inside Harris’s vehicle were killed. The driver accused of causing the crash, 29-year-old Tony Jerome Oliver, survived and was taken to the hospital. Police say Oliver’s blood alcohol level was over the legal limit, and he now faces multiple counts of intoxication manslaughter.

It is with profound sorrow that we share the tragic loss of Sevyn Bellar-White, who was shot and killed last Friday at a house party in South Omaha. Sevyn was just 17 years old and a senior at Millard North High School. He had a bright future ahead, filled with hope and ambition, and was excited to attend college next year to major in Construction Management. We can’t begin to imagine the heartbreak his parents are enduring. They expected him to come home, like he always did after spending time with friends. You never truly know when it will be the last hug, the last “I love you,” or the last time you watch your child walk out the door. The pain of that realization is unimaginable.
