The tight-knit Nutbush neighborhood is grappling with deep sorrow and disbelief following the tragic discovery of two family members found dead inside their home on Helsley Street.
Authorities identified the victims as 70-year-old Ms. Betty “Boo” and Antonio Terrell Carrick. Police responded to the home early in the morning, where both were pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, officers encountered a woman who allegedly struck an officer. She was taken into custody and later identified as Lakita Fleming.
Task force officers returned to the residence later that morning after identifying a male relative as a possible suspect in the homicides. The investigation remains active, and officials have not yet released additional details about the suspect or possible motive.
Neighbors say the loss of Ms. Betty and Antonio has left the community heartbroken. Many remember Ms. Betty as a kind and welcoming neighbor who often looked out for others in the area.
